Annie's DVD Delayed

From the desk of:
Robin M. Ayling: Managing Director
Voiceprint Records UK.

Concerning: Annie’s DVD – ‘Live’ in Philadelphia.
To: Annie’s Fans,

Hi,

A short note to say, I am sincerely sorry to report that the forthcoming Annie Haslam DVD has been delayed. This is because the company responsible for authoring (editing and creating the menus etc) has experienced severe personnel problems.

The engineer responsible for this project has suffered from a serious illness which affected his work and delivery times have been catastrophically affected.

However the good news is, we have now transferred this project to a new company. They are currently working ‘full steam’ ahead in order to complete this project as fast as possible.

I am sure Annie will post updates on her site as the project progresses.

Once again, I am sincerely sorry for any disappointment or upset this delay may have caused.

Any questions please email me directly.

Katrina's Animals are in Desperate Need

Dear Friends,

Please read the attached message from my friend, Mary Max.

If you can help by volunteering your time, it would help the animals that are in desperate need. Time is running out for many of them.

Peace and Love,

Hi Everybody,

As I mentioned last week, The Humane Society of the U.S.’ highly trained Disaster Animal Response Teams are in New Orleans and Mississippi coordinating a multi-state animal rescue-and-recovery effort to help the thousands of pets who have been abandoned, lost, and severely injured. However, even though they have approximately 200 people doing search-and-rescue and staffing temporary shelters, it’s not enough. They desperately need more people to help! (See notes below from two volunteer rescuers.)

For all those who donated money to this effort, thank you. But, if you can travel down south for a few days, please go as soon as you possibly can. Please visit www.hsus.org to fill out the on-line volunteer form (click on “Want to volunteer” under the heading “How You Can Help”) and someone will get back to you to assist your travel.

As always, thank you!

Mary Max.

Louisiana desperately needs volunteers

I just spoke with Garo Alexanian who I've known for thirty years. He's down in Louisiana at the Gonzales shelter at the LaMar Dixon Expo center. They need volunteers. It's like hell there. The nightmare is just beginning. He wept on the phone. Garo is a strong man and his heart is broken to see such suffering. He says it's going to take months to make a dent in this horror. The press is not telling the whole truth. The majority of the animals are alive, roaming the streets, hungry, thirsty, and scared--and in desperate need of help. They need a constant stream of volunteers. He asked me to talk to people to try to get them to volunteer, even if it's just for a few days. He instructed not to bring anything for the animals, just themselves. It's people who are needed in this horrific situation.

There's not enough people. They need people, people and more people. A constant stream of volunteers is necessary if these dogs and cats' lives are going to be saved.

While the human tragedy is being managed and underway, the animal tragedy is just beginning.

Please tell people to call me if they are considering volunteering and need to talk. My phone number is 212-608-5909

Thanks so much,
Sharon Azar

sheilamahon22@yahoo.com writes:

Hi All,

I am about to go home so will not have email till tomorrow but wanted to get this out ASAP.

First I want to thank Adela for sponsoring me. Due to my financial situation, I would not have been able to go down and help the animals. THANK YOU ADELA. I will carry this rewarding experience with me always. I will always see all those innocent eyes looking at me with love an gratitude as I walked them, feed them, washed them. They are so full of love.

I also want to make this point before continuing, not to brag or pat myself on the back but to let people know that even though the work is hard, just about anyone can still make a contribution. I am not a well person, I have to herniated discs in my back, need knee replacements on both knees, have asthma, anemia, etc. I walked dogs for 4 hours straight, from 8-12 then I took a lunch break and went back to work cleaning cages for several hours, ate dinner and walked dogs till 8 or 9PM. Yes I was exhausted but I was able to do it. Of course everyone is different but this is to say not every physical "handicap" should get in the way of people volunteering, also if you feel unfit but want to help, you can work with the cats or small animals or just feed and water....EVERYONE CAN DO SOMETING. NOTHING IS TOO SMALL. Also, they DO ENCOURAGE people to take breaks as needed. I pushed myself ONLY because there were not enough people to the work....the more people there are, the less work an individual has to do. PLEASE, if you can help, HELP, don't make excuses.

WHAT IS NEEDED FOR THE ANIMALS:

They DON'T NEED food donations. THEY NEED PEOPLE, PEOPLE, PEOPLE.  THEY NEED VETS and VET TECHS

Astonishingly, the animals are still alive, they have suffered thru 3 weeks with no food or water in the most brutal heat…It is now the 11th hour, though, and now they will start to die. And the reason will be LACK OF VOLUNTEERS. The gov’t and society in general, has let the animals down.  But if the rescue community does not come forward, they have let the animals down even more. I know not everybody will be able to go, but those that can, MUST. There is no reason for excuses.

If you plan to go out on rescue this is what is needed: Large air-conditioned vehicles in which animals can be transported as well as food and water, because when you go out in the AM you must take a supply of food and water for the animals as well as for yourself.  If you don’t have such a vehicle, don’t let it stop you. You can still team up with a group. But the more vehicles, the more groups can go out.

 Some gear you will need:
-- thick "bite-proof" work gloves or at the very least heavy kitchen rubber gloves
-- sturdy, waterproof (rubber) work boots/shoes, at least ankle high
-- waders
-- long sleeve shirts – for rescuers
-- long pants- for rescuers
-- belt (to hang gear/supplies from)
-- mouth coverings (surgical masks, bandannas)
-- eye protection (sunglasses)
-- flashlights, crow bars/axes etc for breaking into houses
-- Possibly containers full of gasoline in case you run out of gas on a rescue, I don’t think there are operational gas stations in N. O. (not sure)
-- maps of New Orleans
-- spray paint, for marking and dating houses with food and water drop dates (what you did at the house)You will be briefed each AM before going out and set up in teams of 3-4 people.

AT LAMAR DIXON EXPO CENTER (the make-shift shelter)

They need VETS, VET TECHS AND EVERY able bodied person they can get. Volunteers are desperately needed to clean shelter cages, walk dogs, feed and water all animals. They also need people who are experienced in handling "aggressives". I was not, so if I saw a dog with no food or water in cage marked "aggressive," I was not allowed to go in...I had to wait till an available person was able to take of the animal...it's too hot to make the animals wait for water or a walk, or whatever it is they might need.

They have mostly dogs there, but a lot of cats, some exotic birds, snakes, lizards, turtles, rabbits, horses, pot bellied pigs, chickens, etc. NOTE: Most of the dogs there are Pits and Rotties. MOST have not been fixed and the females seem to be used for breeding. I was told that dog fighting is a “cottage” industry in the 9th District of N.O.  I was told that approx 70 pits have been stolen and while I was there. BE ON THE LOOK OUT.  I NEVER LET A PERSON LOOKING FOR THEIR PET GO UNATTENED. If you see something you think is suspicious, call one of the Barn Managers. BETTER TO ACT SAFELY ON BEHALF OF THE ANIMAL….Any one stealing a dog is obviously not doing so to give the animal a loving home.

THIS IS WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FOR YOURSELF:

I spent 4 days at Gonzales so I am not an expert on everything that is taking place. I can only give you my honest observations. IT IS SAFE.  We drove from NYC thru Kentucky to Mississippi to Louisiana and had absolutely no trouble at all. Upon Arriving in Gonzales, at the Lamar Dixon Equestrian Center, we had no trouble getting in, we just said we were invited by the LA SPCA and they let us in no questions asked. YOU WILL NOT BE TURNED AWAY. There are police, army personnel, etc for your security. I never felt unsafe.

You do not have to be self-sufficient. We spent a lot of $$ on food, water, supplies, etc, only to find everything was provided there. They have a huge, air conditioned “tent” with army cots, but you can come in an RV or bring your own tent and camp on the grounds. They provide bottled water, Gatorade, soda, juice, 2 hot meals a day, both veg and non-veg, plus snacks, granola bars, cereal, various canned foods, PB&J etc. They have a medical tent on site. They have sun-block, hand sanitizers, latex gloves etc.  If you want to bring stuff any way, no problem.  There are showers, toilets, laundry facilities etc…They really treat the volunteers well and with respect. They really do value our contribution.

It would be wise to get current Hepatitis vaccinations & current Tetanus shot.

FACTS about REMASTERING

The term REMASTERING means the enhancement of the sound on a CD. This means that it is digitally improved in a studio, which takes time and money.

PLEASE do not buy any of Annie's CDs advertised as being 'REMASTERED', EXCEPT for 'Blessing In Disguise' with two bonus tracks and 'LIVE' Under Brazilian Skies' (the Japanese version) with bonus track 'Ocean Gypsy'. Both of these WERE remastered by Annie and Rave Tesar (the others are no different).

There are people out there trying to sell Annie's products illegally (bootlegs) or by means of misleading the public with the promise of a 'better' sounding product in order to get a sale.

I urge you to be vigilant when buying Annie's CDs. If you have doubts, please contact us at whtdoveorg@aol.com.

A VERY IMPORTANT Message from Annie!

Dear Friends,

It has come to my notice that there is a bootleg DVD being sold illegally. It is called "Annie Haslam 'Live' in Rio de Janeiro". This will be a substandard DVD and it is unauthorized.

Musicians the world over are being affected by this kind of underhanded practice. I am asking you not to condone or spend your hard-earned money on this kind of product.

If you have any doubts about the legitimacy of any of my CDs, videos, or DVDs, please contact Grace McNally at: whtdoveorg@aol.com

We will endeavor to bring these people to justice and to make them pay for their crime, as that is exactly what this is.

Great News for Animal Lovers

As the Compassion in World Farming conference approaches, we see another terrific article from the UK on animal intelligence. The Sunday, March 6, Observer, carried an article, by Mark Townsend, headed "If it's woolly thinking you're after, forget it: With an ability to recognise humans, and a keen sense of self, sheep are brainier than we thought." (Page 10.) The article looks at intelligence in various species.

Townsend tells us that sheep "can react to facial expressions and, like humans, prefer a smile to a grimace... possess a sharp sense of individuality... can recognise the faces of at least 10 people and 50 other sheep for at least two years....and mourn absent individuals."

We read: "Scientists claim such findings are increasingly challenging the belief that farmyard animals have no 'sense of self', a notion that could have profound implications for the way Britain's creatures are farmed."

We read that chickens "can master complex tricks that would make most dog owners proud... and... can feel emotions usually associated with humans, such as jealousy, love and loss...are willing to delay gratification if they think a larger portion will be offered in due course... boast a greater sense of spatial awareness than young children..." and  "learn tricks such as opening doors and navigating mazes with a speed usually the preserve of dogs and horses."

"Pigs were similarly found to have a cerebral capacity beyond the popular preconception of a farm animal...deliberately misleading other pigs if it would result in more food for themselves."

For those who doubted it, we are told that chickens feel pain: "The results that may most perturb animal welfare groups are those that suggest chickens can feel pain. Tests found that those known to be experiencing some form of discomfort or lameness chose food laced with morphine when given the choice. By contrast, chickens who were fully fit chose feed that was not spiked with an analgesic."

And we read that the cow has been "shown to be an astute animal capable of solving riddles with an intellect more traditionally associated with an ape. Studies at Oxford University found that Betty, a Caledonian heifer, instinctively bent a piece of wire, using a gap in her food tray to create a hook that allowed her to scrape food from the bottom of a jar."

Rodents were not excluded:  "They will also hear how wood mice build their own signposts, using sticks and stones to mark sites where food is abundant or marking short-cuts back to their burrow."

Townsend writes: "The conference comes as the food industry is being forced to address mounting consumer concern over the structure of Britain's food industry and factory farming."

It is a terrific article, well worth reading, which appears on the website under the heading "Sheep might be dumb ... but they're not stupid. Studies show that farmyard animals have a range of emotions and a sharp intelligence".

Joey on the Mend. Annie Thanks You!

Dear Friends,

Thank you for all your prayers and wonderful e-mails and words of encouragement.

Joey is back home and as you can see from this photo, a little sad looking but getting better by the day. It was touch and go for three weeks.

First it was a blocked bladder that started it all, and after being catheterized three times on three different occasions the vets then found a lump in his stomach. They operated on him and the lump was not cancerous, but he needed a blood transfusion which his weak little body rejected. This was a bad sign. He then had to be put on oxygen, and the vets decided to try a different donor.

This time his body accepted it!!!

He had Hepatitis, a blocked bladder, thickening in the abdomen and inflammation of the kidneys and bowel!!!

I visited every day and sang to him while I was there. He was so frail, I wasn't sure he wouldn't make it.

He is home now and has six different medications he takes twice a day. These will decrease in time. He continues to eat and drink and do the other bits and pieces the body does, with no problem at all now.

I have a big "thank you" for the wonderful veterinary care he received from my local vet Troy Doherty, and the Gwynedd Veterinary Hospital in Lansdale, PA. The care and attention was constant throughout he was never alone for a moment!

Thank you again for all the prayers. I know they helped save Joey's life.

Peace and Love,
Annie

Annie and John Wetton on New Wetton/Downes CD 'ICON'

Annie has wanted for a very long time to sing alongside her absolute favorite male singer,
John Wetton. Her dream came true when John asked her to sing with him on a song on the new Wetton/Downes CD ‘ICON’. This CD was co-written with John’s long time Asia bandmate and collaborator Geoffrey Downes.

John and Annie’s voices together, have a magical blend, which she had no doubt would happen. The pairing has recently been described, as ‘two signature voices in flawless concord.’

The music on the album is a testament to the successful melodic symphonic rock genre, that has, and still is unique to John and Geoffrey as a writing team.

John performed with Renaissance at the Reading Festival in 1971 and fitted in perfectly. Alas! He moved on to new pastures and King Crimson, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep and of course ASIA and beyond.

‘ICON’ will be available in Japan on April 21st on the Marquee/Avalon label and the rest of the World on May 5th. We will post further updates regarding other labels when we receive them.

Annie's April 9th Concert - Voices For Women: Benefit Concert

Saturday, April 9, 2005, 7:30 p.m.
Media Theatre for the Performing Arts
104 East State Street
Media, PA 19063

Hosted by Debbi Calton of WMGK Radio 102.9. Tickets available through the Media Theatre Box Office: 610-891-0100, or purchase online at www.mediatheatre.com

$15 - General Seating
$25 - Preferred Seating & Post-Event Reception with the Performers

The Voices for Women Benefit Concert will raise awareness and funds for three worthy organizations that support women in transition in the Delaware Valley. The Center Foundation, PathwaysPA, and the Women’s Resource Center exist in order to help women and their families through difficult periods of transition.

The Center Foundation
The Center Foundation was formed in 1994 and is based in Media, Pennsylvania. The purpose of the Foundation is to promote positive social change through education and encouragement of cooperative social action. Through its unique mentoring programs, WomenCare and Young Parents Support Network, volunteer mentors help women and teen parents overcome obstacles to reach their goals.

PathwaysPA
PathWaysPA, formerly known as the Women’s Association for Women’s Alternatives, Inc. (W.A.W.A.), helps low-income women, teens, children and families achieve economic independence and family well-being. PathWaysPA provides residential, community-based and advocacy services, as well as education and employment training.

The Women’s Resource Center
The Women's Resource Center (WRC) has served the Delaware Valley for 28 years, and is dedicated to providing accurate information and referrals for women who are in crisis or transition. WRC supports women, strengthens families, and builds communities through counseling, legal, and educational services.

In addition to Annie and David Sancious, the following performers are scheduled to appear:

Full Frontal Folk
Combining the talents of Wendy Fuhr, Jennifer Schonwald, Thea Shoulson, and Courtney Malley results in a full sensory experience. They combine a "Gen-X" attitude with good solid Folk Music sensibilities. Their instrumentation, including 6 and 12 string guitars, bass, fiddle, mandolin and percussion, never takes away from their powerful voices.

Laura Shay
Laura Shay embarked on her musical career at 16 years of age when she played an open mic in her home neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia. Now, six years later, Shay is armed with a full band, a grittier sound, and an arsenal of songs that go beyond her 22 years.
